Maddie Martin

Maddie Martin

London-based vocalist Maddie Martin is rapidly emerging as a compelling new voice on the UK jazz scene, blending deep-rooted tradition with a fresh, contemporary perspective.

With a distinctive “old soul” tone and a natural gift for storytelling, she captivates audiences through expressive phrasing, rich timbre, and a commanding stage presence.

Raised in a musical household, Maddie was immersed in a wide range of genres from an early age, shaping her broad artistic outlook and continuing to inform her unique sound. A deep love of lyricism lies at the heart of her work, with wordplay playing a central role in her musical expression. She draws inspiration from iconic vocalists including Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.

Maddie is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed a classical vocal degree that underpins her strong technique and supports her exploration across genres. Committed to refining her craft, she has studied with leading jazz vocalists such as Claire Martin OBE, Lauren Kinsella, and Anita Wardell, developing her skills in interpretation, bandleading, and storytelling.

Since moving to London, Maddie has performed at renowned venues and festivals including the 606 Club, The Verdict Jazz Club, Swanage Jazz Festival, and as a guest at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Over the past year, she has led a variety of projects: launching several London-based jam sessions, touring an Ella Fitzgerald tribute show with the London Concertante, performing regularly with duo partner Columbus Sandor, and joining the London Vocal Project under the direction of composer and educator Pete Churchill.

Maddie is also collaborating with trumpeter, composer, and arranger Gabriel Taylor on The Maddie Martin Big Band, which they co-lead. The ensemble showcases Gabriel’s original tunes, arrangements of jazz standards and soul repertoire. In December 2025, the band released their debut Christmas single, By My Santa Baby, written by Gabriel for Maddie and the ensemble. The single is available across all major streaming platforms and has received airplay on several radio stations.

Currently, Maddie is working on her debut album, Part One, scheduled for release in early 2027. The project represents a significant milestone in her artistic journey, featuring original compositions by Gabriel Taylor alongside reimagined jazz standards and soul. Co-produced by multi-award-winning producer and musician James McMillan and acclaimed British jazz vocalist Claire Martin OBE, the album’s first single, Dream Boy, is now available on streaming platforms.
